The Canadian province of Saskatchewan is right in the middle of Canada, bordered by Alberta to the west, Manitoba to the east, and the USA to the south. It also borders the Northwest Territories, but there is no road connection to that entity, so it hardly matters. The province is largely agricultural in the south, with its capital of Regina. This occupies Side 1, with insets of Regina and Saskatoon The northern portion fills side 2 and is mostly lakes (thousands of them) and rivers (more thousands). The northern part is lightly populated, with Flin Flon being the largest urban area, but the region has several large wilderness parks and hundreds of campsites. Historically, the province is important due to the Metis Rebellion of 1885, which is the closest Canada has ever had to a military uprising. The province was carved out of the vast Northwest Territories at the same time as Alberta and modern Manitoba in 1905, thanks to the millions of immigrants settling in the prairies. It is named after the Saskatchewan River that flows through it. Scale 1:900.000.
