Autumn transforms this particular group of people by stimulating their perceptions and imaginations. Autumn becomes for them a peculiar substance to be absorbed through the pores of the skin until it saturates the soul like wood smoke. Come October... opens a window on a terrifying world where unremarkable objects such as a plate of spaghetti, the seeds of a pumpkin, a guest book, assume sinister connotations and lead to unexpected consequences.
