The Gaelic name of the Clan Ross is "Siol Aindrea." The title of Ross was enjoyed by the progenitors of Clan Ross well known as early as the reign of King Malcolm IV, who succeeded to the Crown of Scotland in 1163. The first who bore the title was Malcolm. He was of the Celtic family of O'Bealan or Builton. This slender volume is packed with details of the clan's history from King Malcolm IV in 1163, to the Jacobite army and Bonnie Prince Charles, to the suffering onboard the ship Hector in 1773 and the hardships of settling Nova Scotia, Canada. Individual chapters are devoted to: The Great Highland Clans; Clan Ross-The Ancient Siol Aindrea; The Highland Clearances; The Crofters; The Tartan; The Claymore; Highland Dancing, Music and Poetry. Charming illustrations enhance the text.
