In the Year 13 -- following the end of the Religious Wars -- the United States is gone. The Triumvirate has accomplished filament implantation in citizens' necks and spines and the network that biometrically unites all, The HIVE is a fact of life. It provides regular communications and guidance, such as Predictive Friend technology and retinal alerts. The Religious Ones have been forced into hiding. The mysterious launch of a violent, highly addictive, mind-altering computer game ("Hell on Earth") targeting young people results in viciously-altered teen behaviors. A small group of the best and brightest teen geniuses from around the world -- brought together at the Center for Advanced World Studies -- is called into action. They find themselves thrust into a stealth revolution-in-progress. Relying on the help of a handful of survivors from before Year Zero (what old-timers called 2026) the international cadre of teens struggle to discover aspects of humanity that seem lost. The teens must either risk all to regain human reflexes, for themselves and others, or surrender them forever.
