As one of the intellectuals educated in communist China, the author was lucky to be able to study in the United States. And thus he had an opportunity to compare the difference between the two systems. Gradually he revised his views on dictatorship from direct feeling. After retirement, he spent plenty time in writing political essays. In one article, he discussed the importance of free speech. Following that, he touched upon a series of political issues, such as the path to democracy, the human rights, as well as an analysis on the difficulty for China to adopt democracy and republic. These articles are based on independent thought, some of them have been discussed with friends. The book would also raise some open questions about the present status and its future of China. However, no matter how hard it is, democracy and freedom will come true in China eventually.
