e pluribus haiku 2017 contains 1000 original haiku from fifty states and the District of Columbia, a dramatic and visual portrayal of both the beauty of the country, and the impression one gets when hitchhiking, jumping trains, and accepting the boundless hospitality of Americans. This is the first volume that has not recycled any earlier poems, and that focuses as much as possible on the 1974 trip that generated the idea. It is entirely in the American 5-7-5 style; although some modern haiku poets have rejected that format for a number of reasons, it has remained popular with poets who enjoy putting concise ideas into a strict format that is now consistent across 1000 poems.
