The Mute Christian Under the Smarting Rod

This book was first published in 1659. In its introduction, Puritan preacher Thomas Brooks said that the purpose for which it was written was that all suffering Christians would find in it a remedy for every sore and a cure for every spiritual disease. He adds then every argument in support of his very comforting words. Charles Spurgeon said once to his students at the seminary that "Thomas Brooks is one of the clear examples of using holy imagination in a wise and healthy manner... He uses gold even in the margins of his books... His style is clear and comprehensive; he does not cross the line with his illustrations, which he uses without losing sight of the doctrine. Those rivers of metaphors he uses are always flowing of wise thoughts. If you never read any of Brooks' books, I almost envy you for the joy you will experience when you will read them for the first time...." This book has been originally published in 1659. Current edition has been proofread, typeset for eBook readers, and slightly updated for modern readers. About the author: Thomas Brooks (1608-1680) was an English non-conformist Puritan preacher and author. He wrote extensively and with a keen eye on devotional Christian life. Brooks died after over 40 years of Gospel ministry, in 1680.
