A. C. Benson (Arthur Christopher Benson, 1862-1925) was one of three literary brothers (with Robert H. Benson and E. F. Benson), and like them, included fantasy and supernatural stories in his writings. This collection of short stories shows a diversity of tone, light and dark. One story, "Out of the Sea," is popular in horror collections. In addition to 19 stories written by Benson, there are seven stories that Benson is believed to have penned under the pseudonym "B" for the Magdalene College Magazine. These latter tales are antiquated ghost stories in the tradition of M. R. James, and well worth reading by the ghost story enthusiast.
