Hunter Hawk is a quirky, ambitious inventor who invents a device that enables him to turn living matter into stone and reverse the process when he wishes. When he meets the lovely Megaera, who teaches him to turn stone into flesh, they head for New York City to bring the Roman gods of the Metropolitan Museum of Art to life. The Night Life of the Gods was originally published in 1931 and is here being republished with an introductory biography of the author. Thorne Smith was an American writer of humorous supernatural fantasy fiction best known for his Topper novels, a comedy fantasy novel about a respectable banker called Cosmo Topper and his misadventures with a couple of ghosts.
