Charlotte (Lottie) Stephens, a fourth-grade school teacher, though she was about to begin the next stage of life with her Air Force husband David. She is devastated, however, when he tells her that not only is he moving on to his next duty station in Hawaii without her, he'll be moving there with his new lover. Grant Ryan, a firefighter from Tulsa, takes a job as a long-term substitute teacher to take care of his nana after his papa dies. He's never taken settling down seriously before until he meets Lottie. Just when it seems Lottie might try moving on with Grant, David returns and Grant's Nana pushes him to date a hometown girl who she believes is perfect for him. It's not long before Lottie realizes David was toying with her. Grant isn't happy dating the young woman Nana has chosen for him. They must both decide whether to listen to other people or to their hearts, or they might miss out on the love of a lifetime.
