"White Buffalo had saved Spirit Bear here from a vicious bear attack. He had pushed his twin away then took the swipe meant for Powaw. It was quite ironic that the younger twin would die soon afterwards when another grizzly bear attacked them. The older twin married White Buffalo once she was recovered from a wound, a tooth from the silver tipped grizzly had imbedded deep inside her. Supposedly, it bit her before the younger brother came on the scene distracting the huge monster so it attacked him instead. Shin had shown up and killed the beast, but unfortunately not before it took off Powaw's head.
Little Buck's grandfather had a different view of things since he was sure it was impossible for the woman, no matter how powerful to survive being bitten by a grizzly. When White Buffalo was five months pregnant she made a trip to New Brunswick with Shin... they never returned.
Spirit Bear heartbroken had gone crazy for a time, but then found solace in another... they had a daughter. Shin's son, was also left behind with his mother. He ended up marrying the Medicine Man's daughter... they had a boy. He became a Shaman before marrying Spirit Bear's daughter. Buck's mother was born soon after, she ended up marrying the new Medicine Man's son; he was born soon after. Many times, Little Buck had been told that he looked nothing like his people except for the brown eyes and dark skin. His eyes tilted down a lot with flabby pouches under his eyes. To top it off, he was the shortest of all the boys his age at only four feet."
