Itinerant Thoughts

This book is part of a series of books, because of my wife, who challenged me in 2018 to read my bible every day. I had gone the way of the Dodo concerning this practice and as for prayer, the only time I did that was when in a pulpit. I was backsliding and waning in my faith and with the advent of Covid and all its insidious nastiness, what I was left with was a proverbial valley of dry bones inside, where I was about to pack in the whole idea of going to church and making an effort to keep my faith. What difference would it make anyway? But then, my wife said something quite prophetic. She asked me to read a chapter a day, beginning with Matthew 1 and make some notes, for my sermons. Little did she know what she was doing, for by the time I got to the end of the gospel of Luke, I saw I had 240 pages of notes, the length and breadth of a book, so I found an online publisher in lulu.com and I put it up for sale. To this date, I don't think one has sold, but it is there, on the Synoptic Gospels. I am not bothered if they sell or not, but where they do, if they help one person into faith, or to stay in the faith, then I have done a mighty work for the Lord. Then I got to work on John, Acts, Romans and so on, and before I knew where I was, I was beginning Revelation! I then realised, when I had ended that, that I had now written about the entire New Testament, no mean feat in itself, but now it was a case of what to do next, so I thought okay, on with the Old and began writing about Genesis. Now, as I write this book, some three and a half years later, I am on Daniel and Hosea and still cannot thank my wife enough, for I have learnt so much in this daily journey where I write a chapter each day. So as you read this book and see references to 'earlier books of the bible, ' that will be what that refers to. But what amazes me is the way that all these books merge together in the Old Testament, to bring us the story of the people of God in their journey of faith and that, for one, is the reason why I continue to write about the Old Testament, which at times, has had the negative effect on me, as I have been writing. Take a chapter a day. Read your chapter in your bible. Then pray. Then read my notes here. That is how this book is designed, but you can do it any way you like, so long as you get blessed real good, as we like to say where I live. But above all, keep an open mind, for these are the thoughts of a preacher with over 30 years of experience!
