Commentary on the Book of the Prophet Isaiah - Volume IV
John Calvin
In the final volume on Calvin's commentary on the book of Isaiah, the book takes of from chapter forty-nine and completes the rest of the book. Calvin takes on many of the theological challenges with the Servant passages as well as talking about the grandness of God and the restored promises that are given to the church through Israel. Many have taken these verses as applying directly to Israel but Calvin sees these promises as fulfilled in the apostolic church since Israel never truly accepted their Messiah. The eschatology that lies hidden within the book is also dealt with and Calvin uses the deductive reasoning of scripture to argue for the millenial state that he does. Even if you do not agree with his position, it is interesting to see how his reasoning and commentaries have influenced so many people in the evangelical and reformed church.
