Hamish MacLeod is a Scotsman on holiday with his wife in Cambodia. The moon is full, and he takes a walk along a deserted beach. He comes across a solitary palm tree and sits down to enjoy a cigarette. Click! Hamish sits on an anti-personnel mine. If he moves, he will probably die. The stage is set. Hamish has to remain perfectly still on top of the mine until help hopefully arrives in the morning. To escape from his hellish predicament, he relives his twin brother's life; a life far more fascinating and absorbing than his own.
