In spring 2020, after what already seemed an eternity of lockdown I decided to lighten the mood with a little doggerel. Mostly it was in limerick form, occasionally in another meter. Usually it was daily, sometimes twice a day. There were times, as my wife attempted to communicate, when my glazed stare betrayed a desperate search for an unlikely rhyme. The news generally proved a rich source. Topics ranged from people's frustrated desire for a trip abroad to football matches televised with recorded crowd chants. Very occasionally there came a day when, to approximate the words of the great Tom Lehrer after Henry Kissinger had been awarded the Nobel peace prize, I worried that satire was dead. But fortunately it always popped its head up again. This collection is not intended to obscure the many personal tragedies that have resulted from the pandemic. But I have sought to avoid visiting the dark side. I hope it makes you smile.
