Usually we as humans can tell our emotional state at any point. You know whether you feel happy, depressed or angry. What you may not be able to tell, though, is where exactly those feelings originate. Normally most of us make the mistake of doing the same thing to emotions and feelings. Emotions help us understand others too. The emotional cues and signals we decipher can lead to a wealth of information, and since social communication is a big part of how we develop meaningful relationships, understanding emotional cues allows us to react and respond appropriately.
Managing your emotions can be likened to developing a skill. It involves learning a better way of doing something. It requires change on our part. In reality, we struggle to accept change as humans. This is largely due to many factors, but the working of the mind is highly influential in this regard as we have discussed earlier in part one of this book.
