Lockhart is the recipient of two Individual Artist Awards in Fiction from the Maryland State Arts Council for her short stories and her first novel, Requiem for a Summer Cottage, as well as a silver medal from the Independent Book Publishers Awards for her historical novel, Elizabeth's Field. She has authored and co-authored four children's books and a nationwide program for the teaching of children's literature, Read to me, Talk with me. Her short stories have appeared in such venues as Indiana Review, The Greensboro Review and Pleiades.
