Orphaned at an early age, Susanna Warren had been raised by her grandfather to love the mountains and respect the Native American customs. She was excited when she received an assignment that would bring her home to her beloved Sierra Nevada Mountains to work as an archaeologist for the Native American Branch of the Smithsonian Institute. She did not know she was stepping into the path of thieves bent on stealing artifacts, and they were not adverse to killing anyone who got in their way. Not only must she elude the thieves, but she must engage in a battle of wills with the local sheriff, who can't decide whether to lock her up or protect her!
