Adam Gardner has everything he should need for a satisfying life. He has a beautiful girlfriend and a great best friend, but he begins to have uneasy feelings about both Evelyn and Lucas. Why did he spy Evelyn flirting with another man? Why does he get the feeling Lucas is lying to him?

Adam's paranoia is nothing new, and he tries to talk it through with his psychiatrist, Doctor Hemlock. Despite Hemlock's reassurances, Adam's anxiety and fear get worse. While before he was only suspicious of his loved ones, he's beginning to get the same eerie feeling from complete strangers. A mysterious old woman knows too many personal details about his life, and Adam can't get her out of his head. His night terrors get worse, and hallucinations begin to creep into his daily life.

When Adam meets a young woman at a local bookstore, he thinks things may be turning around. Danica is sympathetic to his plight and determined to help him get to the bottom of what's troubling him. Will the support of a new friend be enough to solve the mystery of Adam's odd, troubled life, or is there something more to his story than he knows?
