The story in this book is about a little girl who is very poor and tries to sell matches. On Christmas Eve the little girl did not sell anything and she cannot return home without money. She is very cold and hungry and tries to warm herself by lighting up some matches. In the light of the matches she sees many wonderful things. She sees her granny in the flame of the matches and wants to go with her. The little match seller dies at the end of the story, but she dies happily knowing she will be with her granny.
