How do growth firms handle their facilitiesmanagement (FM)? Managing the facilities of growthfirms requires a multitude of related activities andskills in FM. In this book (originally a doctoraldissertation) FM is rather regarded as a managerialattitude (often the viewpoint of CEOs) than aprofession. Two relevant issues are investigated: The first issue is: How do growth firms handle the FMof their offices in successive phases of theirevolution? Phase models are analysed and elaboratedthat describe the development of FM in growth firmsin various aspects. Conclusively a three phase modelis created: factotum, structure, and balance. The second issue is: What patterns can be foundbetween FM of the offices of growth firms and theirlocation? A model reveals the dynamics of FMdepending on location and business cycles. The created models are based on extensive analyses ofqualitative and quantitative studies at ChalmersUniversity of Technology in Gothenburg, from in-depthstudies of six growth firms, followed by a surveythat covers the whole of Sweden with a 40 % responserate from 967 growth firms.
