It traces the growth in the importance of defence cooperation and looks at is conceptual and theoretical premises, as related to Indian foreign policy thus far. A further section deals with the limitations and prospects of defence cooperation for India in the near future. The study also explores the genera] direction in which India's foreign polity is headed and the role defence cooperation has to play in that wider arena.
