QUINN Quartermain was born in Charleston, West Virginia, fifty-five miles to the west of Frostport where he was raised and attended local schools. Frostport lay along the Elk River in roughly the center of the state. The town barely fit in a small pocket of land through which the Elk flowed with hills on either side behind the town's center. These hills, covered with mixed conifers and oaks, lay in such patterns that when fall turned the leaves of the deciduous type into colorful visions, the forest made living in town a beautiful thing to behold. For two to three weeks at that time of year, Frostport grew in size to accommodate visitors from in state and out, and the businesses there blossomed with new customers, along with the vibrant mix of seasons.
