Luchino Visconti directs this Italian language war drama starring Dirk Bogarde, Ingrid Thulin and Helmut Berger. Set in 1930s Germany, the story follows the wealthy von Essenbeck family who deal in munitions and frequently conduct business with the Nazi Party. With the family divided over support for the Nazis, tensions grow and daggers fly as the fight to take control of the business empire ensues.
The cast also includes Helmut Griem, Charlotte Rampling and Florinda Bolkan.
