Verdi: La Traviata
Carlos Kleiber
Carlos Kleiber's legendary "La Traviata" recording from 1976 is still considered to be one of the best recordings of Verdi's most famous opera. The star conductor, whose energetic interpretation is unanimously praised, creates the work with such a theatrical fire that this recording, although it was made in the studio, can be regarded as a great moment in musical theater. Ileana Cotrubas, one of the leading Traviatas at the time, played her part with vocal and artistic mastery. Her partners, Plácido Domingo as the fiery Alfredo and Sherrill Milnes as the noble father Germont, are in no way inferior to her artistically. The scale-setting recording is now being released again as a vinyl set (2 LPs in gatefold) in 180 gram pressings, based on masters of the original sources and using the original artwork.
