Karol Szymanowski was quite possible the most celebrated Polish composer of the early 20th century. He is counted as a member of the modernist movement Young Poland. This recording includes the Mazurkas Op. 50, No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, composed between 1924 and 1925, and his Sonata No. 1, Op. 8. In the words of former New York Times music critic Harold Shoenberg, Korean pianist Sang Mi Chung has "everything: technique, temperament, and personality."
