On 13 December 2024, The National will release the double album ‘Rome’, a live album consisting of 21 tracks recorded live on 3 June 2024 on the Cavea stage at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone in Rome, Italy. The double album, mixed by the band's regular collaborator Peter Katis, features songs from the band's 20+ year career that have been given new life in this live performance. And throughout the years, the band has been celebrated for their exceptional concerts.
‘Rome’ is the finest - live - musical testimony from the band's beginnings to the present, and the double album, recorded at the architecturally stunning Parco Della Musica Ennio Morricone venue (named after the famous Italian film composer), features fan favourites like ‘Bloodbuzz Okio’. ‘Don't Swallow the Cap’, ‘I Need My Girl’. ‘The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness’, ‘England’ and ‘Fake Empire’ as well as newer songs like ‘Eucalyptus’, ‘New Order T-Shirt’, ‘Tropic Morning News’ and ‘Smoke Detector’.
The band is known for changing their setlist from night to night, and this was also the case during the recording of ‘Rome’, which features live rarities like show opener ‘Runaway’, but also songs like ‘Lemonworld’, ‘The Geese of Beverly Road’, ‘Lit Up’, ‘Humiliation’ from Trouble Will Find Me and ‘Murder Me Rachael’.
