"In the early 1920s, Charlie Monroe and his brothers quietly formed a band that would lay the foundation for the bluegrass boom that was to follow. Considered the founders of the genre, the brothers went their own way in 1938, but this album captures a rare glimpse of what that band may have been like to behold. Playing a benefit with his band 'The Kentucky Partners' at the Lake Norman Music Hall in North Carolina, Charlie was in poor health at the time and the audience were grateful to hear his country favorites echoing around the room once more and are audibly shocked to see his brother Birch to make a rare appearance on stage beside him. Originally released in 1975 with Pine Tree Records, this record may be one of the purest and closest ways to listen to the legacy of bluegrass music in the comfort of your own home.
