WONK (Joel Alpers, drums & percussion; Dan Boissy, saxophones; Derek Frank, bass; Anthony King, guitars; and Justin Reinhardt, keyboards) is an ensemble of five Los Angeles-based musicians with a shared love of grooving instrumental music. The ten original compositions on their debut release combine elements of funk, jazz, R&B, rock, fusion, and old school soundtrack flavor; their incendiary live shows continue this diversified approach, mixing in unique arrangements of compositions from artists as wide-ranging as Herbie Hancock, Jeff Beck, Curtis Mayfield, and Aerosmith. Collectively, the band brings many thousands of gigs' worth of seasoning to every note they play, with the goal of always giving their audience music that brims with energy, dynamics, and soul. Beautifully recorded by Paul Horabin, mixed by the amazing Tony Shepperd, and mastered by Stephen Marsh, 'WONK' tips it's hat to the sonic template of the 1970s while still sounding fresh and modern. Turn it up and get down!
