Velvett Fogg
Velvett Fogg were one of many new bands within the underground scene, that were formed at the end of the sixties that would attempt to take pop music to a higher level of creativity. Velvett Fogg's self-titled (and only) album was released on the Pye label. Despite what some may have thought, the album stands up as a fine example of late 1960s British psychedelia. They were fronted by soul singer Ernie Handy and the guitarist Bob Hewitt. Opener "Yellow Cave Woman" is a great slice of quasi-mystical heavy psych. The Bee Gees "New York Mining Disaster 1941" and The Weavers anti-war song "Come Away Melinda" are cover songs but both are quite impressive. Their exciting stage act included a light show and a go-go dancer.
